Reports of Attempted Bank Robbery Attempt in Fort Payne
WEIS News has received reports of a possible bank robbery attempt in Fort Payne on Monday.
Staff at the DeKalb County Library confirmed they were placed on lockdown as a precaution. Library employees told WEIS News they were advised that the nearby PNC Bank had been the target of an attempted robbery.
At this time, details remain limited. Authorities have not yet released an official statement, but scanner traffic indicates that a suspect is still being sought.
WEIS News is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
UPDATE: We spoke with the Fort Payne Police department who confirmed the robbery attempt and that they are responding, but had no further information to release at this time. It appears to still be an active scene and response.
Update 11:05 AM Fort Payne Police Release Statement via Facebook:
Our department is currently on the scene working a robbery at PNC Bank, in downtown Fort Payne. Law Enforcement personnel along with Federal officers are currently investigating the incident. There doesn’t appear to be an immediate threat to the public at this time. As more information develops, we will push it out as we can.
