$1.3 Million Project Approved for Collinsville

During the Collinsville City Council Meeting on Monday afternoon, the Council heard from Greenhills Engineering Consultants of Fort Payne with a proposal to upgrade and expand the Ball Fields. Drawings were presented with the proposed pricing on items discussed such as turf, dugouts, fencing, backstops, drainage, rock, and parking for 114 vehicles with 5 handicap parking places.

Councilman Bowen made the motion to proceed with the project as presented to allow the City time to arrange the payment options and to let the Engineering company to proceed with final plans for the new fields.

Librarian Jennifer Wilkins updated the Council on the progress of the Summer Reading program at the Library. Police Chief, Andy Brown, updated the Council on the new Police Department recruit. He just finished the Police Academy on Thursday and worked his first shift on Friday. Brown told the Council he had just hired another police officer which will put the department at full capacity of 5 officers. Brown also asked the Council to consider increasing the Police Dispatcher Pay by a dollar per hour. No action was taken on the issue but will be under advisement. Chief Brown told the Council the employees were learning the CAD Program which is Computer Assisted Dispatching.

The poll workers resolution had to be changed to reflect a change with one worker dropping out.

The Council approved opening a savings account for the Soccer Program’s Fund Raiser. A pair of Iron Bowl Tickets will be given away during the Alabama/Auburn  fund raiser.

A new logo for the City was adopted to use on signage, stationary, website, and other official City uses.

Labor Day Hot Dog Supper at 6 pm with Fireworks at 8.

The next Collinsville City Council meeting is set for September 2nd at 5 pm in the Council Chambers.
