Centre- A single vehicle accident injured two men on Wednesday morning. The men were ejected from a pick up truck in front of OK Tire on the Chesnut Bypass in Centre. It appears the men entered the ditch in front of the Little Caesars shopping center when traveling south in the direction of U.S. Highway 411.
Tire marks were visible in the ditch leading up to the culvert the entrance of the parking area. According to witnesses, the pickup truck hit the culvert and went airborne, flipping at least once end over end.
Witnesses described hearing an extremely loud noise, thinking something may have exploded or dropped in the tire shop or near by. One witness said after hearing the first loud bang, she looked up to see the truck in the air.
A nurse and a physician, who were bystanders, attended to the occupants of the pickup, who were ejected through the rear window. Following the accident, a crowd was gathered in the parking area, with several people praising the fast response of first responders, expressing gratitude for the local departments who arrived quickly.
Centre Police, Centre Fire, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, and Atrium Health Floyd EMS were on scene.
Traffic continued to flow under the direction of officers, and the roads are open at this time.
The two men were transported to hospitals for treatment.
