Leesburg Woman Killed When Struck By Vehicle in DeKalb County

According to Alabama State Troopers:

A two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 7:38 p.m. Thursday, April 10, has claimed the life of a Leesburg woman. Tammy D. Smith, 62, the pedestrian, who was standing in the roadway, was critically injured when she was struck by the 2014 GMC 1500 pickup driven by Phil B. Sparks, 74, of Grove Oak. Smith was transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Prior to striking Smith, the GMC struck a 2011 Hyundai Sonata that initially driven by Smith. The Hyundai was sitting stationary in the roadway at the time of the crash.

The crash occurred on Alabama 227 near Dekalb County 51, approximately four miles north of Yancy, in DeKalb County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
