CEDAR BLUFF – Cherokee County High School pitcher Emma Hill registered 12 strikeouts, including the 700th of her career, in a 6-2 victory over Spring Garden in the winners bracket of the Cherokee County Softball Tournament at Cedar Bluff on Friday.
Hill held the Lady Panthers scoreless over 4 2/3 innings with a walk.
Bristol Bass, Auburn Mullins and Journie Cabe each collected a pair of hits for the Lady Warriors. Bass drove in three runs. Bass tripled and doubled. Sofie Dawson delivered an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the third inning. Kaylee Lewis walked twice.
Layla Ingram had a hit for Spring Garden. Avery Steward drove in a run. She also suffered the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits with five walks and two strikeouts over five innings.
The win secured a spot in Saturday’s 10:30 a.m. county championship game for the Lady Warriors. They’ll play the winner of the 9 a.m. game between Spring Garden and Cedar Bluff.
Cedar Bluff 8, Sand Rock 5
CEDAR BLUFF – A six-run bottom of the third inning lifted the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers past Sand Rock 8-5 in a Cherokee County Softball Tournament elimination game on Friday evening.
Kylie Vadon led the Lady Tigers at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Ciana Smith and Tylee Bradford both delivered a hit and a RBI. Kaylyn Vadon and Paityn Walker both walked and scored a run. Janaya Higgins and Logan Goza both scored a run.
Kaylyn Vadon earned the win in the circle. She tossed four innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Emma Sipsy led Sand Rock with a pair of hits, including a home run and a double. She scored twice and drove in two runs. Aliyah King collected a triple, a run and a RBI. Maddie Clanton and Macy Martin both doubled and scored a run. Martin also had a RBI.
Martin suffered the loss after working three innings. She gave up an earned run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
