Hunter Safety Program Presented by Conservation Officers and NWTF at Piedmont High School**
Piedmont – In a remarkable collaborative effort, the local and state chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) are joining forces with dedicated conservation officers from the Alabama State Department of Natural Resources and the Alabama Conservation Enforcement Officers Association to launch an enriching hunter safety program at Piedmont High School. This vital initiative has also garnered the enthusiastic support of the Piedmont High School FFA.
This comprehensive program is open to individuals aged 10 and older and promises a unique blend of hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge. Participants will delve into the essentials of hunter safety, safe firearms handling, and the principles of responsible hunting practices. They will not only acquire practical skills but also understand the profound importance of wildlife conservation and the ethics behind sustainable hunting. Those who successfully complete the program will receive a hunter safety card that is recognized in all 50 states, opening doors to responsible hunting opportunities.
“We are thrilled to host this essential program,” shared Mr. Peyton
Allen from Piedmont High School. “Our participants stand to gain invaluable skills and insights that will serve them well in the future. We deeply appreciate the partnership with the conservation officers and NWTF, which makes this initiative possible.”
Conservation Officer Ben Kisor expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This program offers an exceptional opportunity for participants to learn about hunter safety and the importance of ethical hunting practices. We’re excited to collaborate with NWTF and ACEOA to provide this valuable experience to our community. This year, we proudly welcomed the largest class to date, and we eagerly anticipate partnering again in August 2025.”
Molly Jordan, a representative from NWTF, emphasized the hunting and conservation education. “We take great pride in collaborating with Piedmont High School and the conservation officers to bring this program to life in our community. This year, we have broadened our curriculum to include hands-on outdoor sessions focusing on tree stand safety and safe practices for crossing fences. We also want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Alabama Conservation Enforcement Officers Association, whose support has allowed us to provide lunch and exciting door prizes courtesy of Bass Pro.”
The Northeast Alabama Chapter of the NWTF has been a steadfast advocate for hunter-safety education in the region, sponsoring programs for three consecutive years, with participation steadily on the rise. This year, an impressive 40 individuals registered, culminating in 30 enthusiastic participants! We sincerely appreciate the supportive communities of Sand Rock and Piedmont for helping to promote NWTF’s mission of hunting safely!
