Firefighters from across Cherokee County gathered in the Forney community Saturday morning for vital and intense training. The seven-hour long training focused not only on fire suppression, but interior search and rescue as well.
“We don’t get to do this enough” said Chief Rich Lindsey (MFD) who went on to explain that a lot of preparatory work goes into making a structure safe for live fire training and it is rare that a structure is donated that is safe for interior operations.
Twenty-Seven firefighters from McCord’s Crossroads, Tucker’s Chapel, Leesburg, Spring Creek, and Spring Garden Fire Departments participated in the training which was led by live fire instructors Asst. Chief Barry Rogers, Jr. (MFD) and Firefighter Nick Whorton (SCFD).
The structure was donated by Coy Deaton who is also a Lieutenant at McCord’s Fire Department.
In closing, Chief Lindsey said, “I would like to thank our instructors, the cooperating property owner, and all the volunteer firefighters who gave up a Saturday to come out and train so that they are prepared to safely jump into action when their neighbor is in need.
