GADSDEN – Ty Traffanstedt tallied seven 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 34 points, but Sand Rock fell short at Gaston 59-54 in Class 2A, Area 13 basketball action on Friday.
Traffanstedt also grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists for the Wildcats (15-12). Will Cleere came away with seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Wyatt Miller finished with six points, two rebounds and two blocks.
Mica Merriman topped the Bulldogs with 33 points, including a pair of treys. He also connected on 13-of-16 free throws.
As a team, Gaston connected on 19-of-24 free throws in the game. Sand Rock was 2-of-5 at the charity stripe.
Devon Green added 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers for the Bulldogs. Adonis Jones and Jayce Gibbs both finished with six points on a pair of treys apiece.
Gaston’s win secured home court advantage for the Bulldogs in the upcoming area tournament.
Sand Rock hosts Sylvania on Tuesday.
