Gadsden State hosts commencement exercises

Centre, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College honored graduates from the Summer and Fall Semesters during commencement exercises Dec. 19 at Gadsden State Cherokee. The College recognized 535 students who successfully completed the requirements for associate degrees, certificates and short-term certificates, earning a total of 807 credentials.

“These students showed incredible dedication to their education, and we were honored to celebrate their success,” said Andy Green, dean of Student Services. “Earning a credential from Gadsden State is a significant achievement.”

There were 111 students honored for their academic achievement with traditional cords signaling the level of honor they achieved.

In total, 28 students received the highest honor by graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 3.9-4.0 GPA wearing a gold cord to signify their exceptional academic success. Additionally, 41 students graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.7-3.89 GPA receiving a red cord. Recognized as Cum Laude graduates for a 3.5-3.69 GPA were 26 students earning a red and gold cord. A group of 16 students graduated with distinction for earning a technical certificate while maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA. These students received a red and black cord for their hard work.

“Our honor graduates have demonstrated incredible perseverance and commitment to their academic excellence,” Green said. “Their hard work and focus have set them apart. It’s a privilege for Gadsden State to recognize their exceptional achievements while balancing academic challenges with the demands of life.”

With Fall Semester concluding, Gadsden State is registering students for the full Spring Semester and two mini terms. The Spring Semester and Mini Term 1 will begin Jan. 13 with Mini Term 2 starting on March 2.
