Warriors pull away from Central-Florence 41-14

CENTRE – Tae Diamond tallied 109 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns, and Tristan Brown gained 101 yards on 12 totes with a score to lead the third-ranked Cherokee County Warriors to a 41-14 victory over the Central-Florence Wildcats in Class 4A second round football playoff action on Friday night.

Keyshawn Woods finished with 96 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns for the Warriors (11-1). Woods scored the Warriors’ first touchdown on a 31-yard run in the first quarter. Ben Frampton connected on the extra point for a 7-0 lead after a quarter of play.

The Wildcats (9-3) tied the game at 7 in the second quarter on Jackson Brewer’s 18-yard touchdown pass to JaVier Baugh, but the Warriors regained the lead score at 14-7 on Caleb Harbour’s 24-yard scoop and score before halftime.

Central-Florence battled back in the third on a Brewer 1-yard touchdown run. The point after made it 14-14, but the Warriors pulled away from there. They scored 27 unanswered points for the final.

Brown and Diamond had touchdown runs of 38 and 18 yards respectively in the third to give Cherokee County a 28-14 edge. Diamond and Woods finished off the scoring on runs of 30 and 20 yards in the fourth for the final.

Cherokee County hits the road next Friday in the state quarterfinals at Brooks. The Lions (10-2) defeated Alexandria 41-35 in other second-round action on Friday night.
