Cherokee County Commission Meeting

 During the regular meeting of the County Commission, Tuesday Morning, action was taken to appoint Brent Snead as the Safety Coordinator for the County. This was pursuant to the requirements of the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama. Snead will be responsible for establishing a Countywide Safety Committee, Coordinating and presiding over the committee meetings, assisting the County in determining safety-sensitive departments, implementing safety rules among many other duties outlined by the ACCA.

The Commission adopted a tax exempt lease agreement for the financing of two trucks and a mower for the County Highway Department in the amount of $646.355.

The Alabama Department of Revenue will be administering and collecting sales, use, rental, and lodging taxes levied by the County Commission going forward beginning December 1st. The Contract with AVENU is expiring on November 30th and the Commission decided this would better serve the County at this time.

The Part-time Seasonal Employee Policy was amended by the Commission to reflect the recent $2.00 per hour rate increase for County Employees.

The Commission authorized Chairman Burgess and Administrator Steele to consult with the Wall of Honor Group to determine a suitable place for a Veterans Wall of Honor to be erected. The Group had approached the Commission previously about placing it on the property of the old jail site behind Regions Bank. The Commission said they would like to see it built on a site with higher visibility.

Lynzey Denise Harvey was approved for the position of Part-Time Library Assistant at Pay Grade 3, Step 1.

The Agreement for forensic services, consultation and education with Jacksonville State University in the amount of $2500 was approved for the 2025 year.

The Shop at Home Campaign with WEIS Radio for November and December was approved in the amount of $3400.

The next Cherokee County Commission meeting will be in the Commission Chambers on October 28th at 5pm.
