Gaylesville hangs tough, but falls at Valley Head 28-14

VALLEY HEAD – Alex Baty ran for 134 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown, but they weren’t enough to lead the Gaylesville Trojans to a region football win at Valley Head on Friday. The Trojans fell by the final of 28-14.

Gaylesville (2-1, 0-1 Class 1A Region 8) trailed just 6-0 at halftime after the Tigers (3-0, 1-0) had a scoop and score for the only points in the first half. Valley Head increased its lead to 14-0 with a touchdown and 2-point conversion early in the third quarter.

Jack Sentell cut the Trojans’ deficit to 14-8 with a touchdown, but Valley Head regained a two-touchdown lead with another score to make it 20-8.

Baty later scored to bring the Trojans within 20-14, but Valley Head scored late to put the game out of reach.

Sentell had 38 yards on 10 carries with a score. He also had five tackles on defense.

Timmy Dawson led the Trojan defense with 19 tackles. Baty delivered 12 stops. Karrson Ray and Aydn Heinrich both had nine tackles. Hunter Allmond added seven stops. Collin Hendon, and Daylen Dobbins also both finished with five tackles.

Gaylesville hosts Appalachian on Friday.
