Theft Arrest Related to Lottery Ticket Purchase in Georgia

The purchase of a lottery ticket at a Circle K Gas Station in LaFayette (Georgia) confirmed the whereabouts of a vehicle thief, and it resulted in the arrest of a Chattooga County man last week.   According to the Summerville Police Department, Jason Vaughn reported that someone had stolen his vehicle from Ballard’s Automotive; the truck was later found parked behind a Dollar General Store in Summerville.

Inside of the truck – the investigators discovered a lottery ticket that had been scratched off.    Summerville Police contacted the Georgia Lottery, and were indeed then able to confirm that the ticket had been purchased in LaFayette.

Summerville Police went to the gas station – in LaFayette – and reviewed video surveillance footage and they were able to determine that 29-year-old Justin Clay Carroll had purchased the ticket at the convenience store.  Police then located Carroll and arrested him on theft charges and he told police that he stole the vehicle because he “wanted to go to LaFayette”.   Officers were quickly able to retrieve the key fob for the vehicle, in Town Creek – after Carroll told them that he had tossed the keys into the creek, near Willow Springs Park.
