Spring Garden improves to 2-0 with 34-12 victory at Pleasant Valley

PLEASANT VALLEY – The Pleasant Valley Raiders took an early lead, but the Spring Garden Panthers scored 34 unanswered points to take a 34-12 football victory on Friday night.

Seniors Connor Bates and John Welsh both had all-around nights for the Panthers (2-0). Bates ran for 114 yards on 18 carries and scored Spring Garden’s first touchdown. He also caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Noah Barber in the second quarter, posted four tackles and recovered a fumble on defense.

Welsh had 35 yards on five carries with two scores from 3 and 19 yards. He also caught five passes for 73 yards, a touchdown and a 2-point conversion, and had an interception on defense.

Barber ran for 61 yards on 10 totes with a touchdown. He was also 7 of 11 passing for 98 yards and a score. Clayton Sadler accumulated 74 yards on eight totes for the Panthers.

Colton Driskell led the Panther defense with five tackles. Grey Simpson and Jacob Welsh both had four stops apiece.

Spring Garden travels to Ragland to open Class 1A Region 8 play on Friday.
