City of Gadsden and Gadsden State Community College Are Working Together

The City of Gadsden and Gadsden State Community College signed a police department mutual aid agreement Thursday morning — the latest example of cooperation between the city and school.

“This is about us working together,” said Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford. “It’s about the little things that make a difference because the little things turn into the big things.”GSCC officially formed its new police department last year, and this agreement lays the groundwork for coordinating responses between the GSCC and Gadsden police departments.

“There may, God forbid, come that occasion when we all need to be working together for the purpose of some incident that has occurred on our campus,” said GSCC President Dr. Kathy Murphy, who said she regularly prays for the safety and well-being of their students and community.

“And likewise, mayor, should you ever need us, we stand ready to serve,” she said. Ford also spoke about the importance of supporting GSCC, which has a large impact on the city through industrial recruitment, workforce education, facilities and more.
