Gadsden State To Host Groundbreaking For New Sports Complex

Gadsden State Community College is hosting a groundbreaking at 3 p.m. April 2 for the baseball/softball complex located in the Gadsden Sports Park behind the Wallace Drive Campus. The public is invited to attend. A Rendering of the new facility is attached below.

A few of the highlights of the new complex will include:

  • Entry concourse between field
  • Full synthetic fields and bullpens
  • LED lighting systems
  • New scoreboards
  • Home dugouts that include locker rooms and restrooms for players and coaches
  • Visitor dugouts with large field storage rooms
  • Concession stand to accommodate both fields
  • Multi-stall restrooms for spectators
  • Elevated bleachers with 150 seating capacity
  • Covered hitting facility with three synthetic turf hitting/pitching lanes

The $10.1 million complex is a result of a bond issue worth $20 million, which was approved by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees in November. The remainder of the funds will go towards the renovation of Wallace Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus.

The City of Gadsden is also partnering with Gadsden State to pay for half of the pedestrian bridge and parking that will be available at the new complex.
