Spring Garden’s John Welsh singles home game-winning run in 4-3 baseball win over Hokes Bluff

SPRING GARDEN – John Welsh singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting the Spring Garden Panthers past Hokes Bluff 4-3 in baseball action on Monday.

It was Welsh’s lone hit of the game for Spring Garden (2-0).

Connor Bates led the Panthers at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Chapel Pope posted a double and two RBIs. Jacob Welsh had a hit and scored a run. Hunter Parris walked and scored a run. Gray Simpson also scored a run.

Hayes Garmon earned the win on the mound for the Panthers. He tossed 1 1/3 innings of relief, giving up just two hits. Zane Edwards started the game and tossed 2 1/3 innings. He gave up two earned runs in the top of the first inning on three hits with a pair of walks. Clayton Sadler also worked 3 1/3 innings. He gave up an earned run on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Spring Garden seeks to defend its Cherokee County title this weekend by hosting the Cherokee County Baseball Tournament. The Panthers take on Thursday’s Cedar Bluff-Gaylesville winner on Friday at 7 p.m.
