JACKSONVILLE – A 34-16 run in the third quarter led the Geraldine Bulldogs past the Piedmont Bulldogs 71-50 in the Class 3A Northeast Regional on Saturday at Jacksonville State University’s Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Cole Wilson led Piedmont with 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Taylon Swain tallied 11 points, including a pair of treys. He also had seven rebounds and two assists.
Colton Proctor posted seven points, seven blocks, five rebounds and two assists. Dylan Oliver scored six points and Chance Murphy finished with five points.
Connor Johnson and Lucas Bryant led Geraldine with 21 points apiece. Johnson had a pair of treys along with six rebounds and an assist. Bryant also came away with four boards and three blocks.
Ridge Smith accounted for 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Jaxon Colvin finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal.
Piedmont led 11-7 after one and 23-21 at halftime before Geraldine went on its third quarter run to put the game out of reach.
Geraldine advances to face Plainview in the regional final on Thursday at 2:15 p.m. Plainview defeated Susan Moore 64-29 in the other regional semifinal on Saturday.
In girls action, the Plainview Lady Bears jumped out to a 42-5 first quarter advantage and cruised to a 72-24 victory over Piedmont in the Class 3A girls Northeast Regional semifinals.
Sawyer Kate Hulgan led the Lady Bears with 20 points. Kami Sanders contributed14 points and Lauren Jimmerson finished with 12 points.
Jaycee Glover topped Piedmont with five points and four rebounds.
Plainview advances to Thursday’s regional final against Susan Moore. Tipoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
