Sand Rock girls clinch Class 2A, Area 12 basketball title

SAND ROCK – The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats jumped out on a 24-0 run and captured a 58-28 victory over Fyffe to clinch the Class 2A, Area 12 basketball title on Tuesday.

Katelyn St.Clair led the No. 8 Lady Wildcats with 23 points, including four 3-pointers. She also had five rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.

Kennedy Henderson delivered 10 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. Zoey Handy added eight points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Macey Pruitt posted six points and three boards. Chloe Stephens finished with five points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Elliston Stone led Fyffe with eight points. Kendra Fay finished with seven points.

Sand Rock (24-7) led 18-0 at the end of the first quarter and held a 36-7 halftime advantage. The Lady Wildcats took a 54-16 lead into the fourth quarter.

Both teams advance to sub-regional play on Friday at 6 p.m. Sand Rock will host Area 6 runner-up LaFayette. Fyffe will travel to Area 6 winner Lanett. Lanett defeated LaFayette 43-14 in the Area 6 championship game.
