Alabama Governer Kay Ivey, Sunday issued a “State of Emergency” for 25 Alabama counties as the state this week faces a threat of winter storms. Those counties include – Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Fayette, Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Morgan, Pickens, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston.
“We are anticipating unusually cold temperatures in Alabama this week, so I am urging everyone to be prepared, take caution traveling and stay weather aware,” Ivey said. Parts of northern Alabama could see 2:00 to 6:00 inches of snowfall, and some ice, according to the National Weather Service.
Winter storm warnings were expanded to cover all of northern Alabama on Sunday afternoon including Huntsville, and more of central Alabama was later added to winter weather advisories, including Birmingham.
More additions could be possible.
