EMA To Open Warming Stations In Cherokee County In The Event Of Extended Power Outages

This Information Provided By The Cherokee County EMA Office

The National Weather Service says that periods of light freezing precipitation will continue across our area overnight and into the morning hours of Tuesday.
Temps are expected to remain below the freezing mark and a hard freeze warning has been issued for Cherokee County. Prolonged sub-freezing temps may cause pipes to burst. Bitterly cold temps and wind chills can result in hypothermia or frost bite. These conditions are life-threatening to those with prolonged exposure without access to warmth.
In the event of prolonged power outages, The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency will open warming stations across the county.
Those locations include:
	•	Cedar Bluff Fire Department
	•	Centre Elementary School Gym
	•	Leesburg FEMA Building

As a reminder, pets are NOT allowed in the warming stations due to the unknown medical conditions of others.
Cherokee County Schools will be closed on Tuesday due to the possibility of freezing rain which could adversely affect travel conditions. All county offices will be operating on a two hour delay on Tuesday.
We encourage everyone to follow us on social media and download our mobile apps for Android and Apple users.
We will continue to monitor conditions overnight and into the morning hours and we will post frequent updates.
Everyone stay safe and stay warm!!
