Alabama ONE Cherokee Girls Basketball Classic Roundup: Spring Garden pulls away from New Hope

SAND ROCK – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers faced a stiff challenge from Class 4A New Hope in the Alabama ONE Cherokee Basketball Classic at Sand Rock, but the Lady Panthers pulled away for a 48-31 victory to improve to 11-0 on the season.

Libby Brown sank six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. She also grabbed three rebounds, had two assists and blocked a shot.

Ace Austin added 14 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block for the Lady Panthers. Chloe Rule and Maggie Jarrett both managed eight points.

Jada Bates topped New Hope’s scorers with 14 points. Keyari Moore managed seven points and Atlanta Copeland finished with five points.

New Hope held a 15-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Spring Garden surged ahead at halftime 28-20. The Lady Panthers built a 41-29 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

The following is a roundup of Saturday’s other girls tournament action at Sand Rock.

Cullman Christian 56, Gaylesville 41

SAND ROCK – Gracie Dawson delivered a game-high 22 points, including three 3-pointers, but her effort wasn’t enough to lead the Gaylesville Lady Trojans past Cullman Christian. Gaylesville fell by the final of 56-41.

Jayden Dobbins added eight points for the Lady Trojans, including a pair of 3-pointers. Emma Givens came away with six points and Lydia Reynolds finished with five points.

Abbey Jones and Gracie Stidham led Cullman Christian with 14 points apiece. Lila Sellers tallied 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Phoebe Jones netted nine points and Piper Coats finished with seven points.

Cullman Christian claimed an 18-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 32-22 advantage at halftime. They led 40-32 at the end of three quarters.

Cedar Bluff 44, Wellborn 31

SAND ROCK – Kylie Vadon collected 22 points, six steals, two rebounds, an assist and a block to lead the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers to a 44-31 victory over Wellborn.

Ciana Smith added nine points, 10 rebounds and two steals for the Lady Tigers. Caley Bruce contributed six points, five rebounds, a steal and a block. Za’Niya Kyle finished with six points, seven rebounds, three steals and block.

Anna Odom led Wellborn with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Destiny Benefield finished with five points.

Cedar Bluff jumped out to 21-10 first-quarter advantage and held a 32-23 edge at halftime. Wellborn managed to cut the Lady Tiger lead to 34-29 at the end of three quarters, but Cedar Bluff pulled away in the fourth for the final.

Cherokee County 60, Oneonta 32

SAND ROCK – Mary Hayes Johnson scored 22 points and Nevaeh Gaidurgis tossed in 14 points to lead the Cherokee County Lady Warriors past Oneonta 60-32.

Ellisan Givens came away with eight points for the Lady Warriors. Deannia Starr finished five points.

Madalan Robertson led Oneonta with 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Zion Dilliapree finished with eight points.

Cherokee County held a 16-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter and built a 40-13 edge at halftime. The Lady Warriors led 52-22 at the end of three quarters.

Sand Rock 73, Westbrook Christian 43

SAND ROCK – Katelyn St.Clair delivered 21 points,10 rebounds, nine assists and three steals in leading the Sand Rock Lady Wildcats to a 73-43 victory over Westbrook Christian.

Zoey Handy added 12 points, four rebounds and three steals for the Lady Wildcats. Peyton Johnson, Chloe Stephens and Kennedy Henderson each scored eight points. Johnson added four rebounds, two steals and an assist. Stephens had six boards, two steals and an assist. Henderson had eight boards, three steals and two assists.

Macy Pruitt posted six points and Molly Grace Lay finished with five points.

Landri Lipscomb led the Lady Warriors with 11 points. Keyara Jones netted nine points and Addi Hammontree finished with seven points.

Sand Rock built a 26-11 lead after one and cruised to a 41-19 edge at halftime. The Lady Wildcats led 52-32 after three quarters.
