Gadsden State Cherokee Offers More Evening Courses

Centre, Ala / Gadsden State Community College is offering more flexibility for students in Cherokee County and the surrounding area by offering evening classes on its campus in Centre.

“We’re doing everything we can to offer more academic courses at additional times which may be more convenient for working students,” said Randi Wright, campus director at Gadsden State Cherokee. “We want them to take classes that allow them more flexibility while increasing accessibility by offering the courses close to home.”  The new evening course offerings will be available in the spring semester which will begin January 8th.  

Spring Registration is currently open at gadsdenstate.edu/register.

“These classes are available to our current students and to dual enrollment students,” she said.  “All the credits earned in these classes will go towards a student’s credential at Gadsden State OR it will seamlessly transfer to a four-year university for these students.”

The evening classes include:

     * English Composition II from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays
* Microcomputer Applications from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays
* Precalculus Algebra from 5 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays
* Fundamentals of Oral Communication from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Wednesdays
* Human Anatomy and Physiology II from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays
* U.S. History II from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Thursdays

The courses are also offered during the day – and other daytime academic courses that are offered at Gadsden State Cherokee – include General Microbiology, an Introduction to Humanities as well as Intermediate College Algebra, and also an Orientation to College General Psychology, as well as the Human Growth along with Development.

Programs that can be completed at Gadsden State Cherokee are Nursing and also the Poultry Science 2+2 Program with Auburn University.

“We have a great deal of pride in our Nursing Program,” Wright said. “Our instructors have a great deal of dedication and skill as they teach the next generation of healthcare providers.  “We are also proud of our unique partnership we have with Auburn University through our Poultry Science Program.  Students can attend Gadsden State Cherokee for two years – then seamlessly transfer into Auburn’s program to earn a bachelor’s degree.  The poultry industry is one of the largest in Alabama, so the job market is vast and lucrative.”

Students living in the following bordering counties in Georgia are eligible for instate tuition at Gadsden State Cherokee: Floyd, Chattooga, Polk, Carroll, Heard and Paulding.
