Alabama Scenic River Trail Paddle Race Underway

The 10 day event got underway today on Weiss Lake with 19 teams. The paddle teams launched their boats with the race beginning at 10 am. The group will stop for the night at a site on Henry Neely Lake in the Gadsden area before continuing on the 650 mile race to Fort Morgan on Mobile Bay.

According to the founder of the Alabama Scenic River Trail, Fred Couch, the quickest time anyone has made the trip is 4 days, 17 hours and 2 minutes.  Many of the participants come from different areas of the world including Germany, Hawaii, Canada and all across the United States.
