Firefighters responded to a report of a house fire occurring late Monday afternoon in Cherokee County.

The fire was at a residence which was located on Highway 273 – being called in around 4:20 that afternoon – with units from the Centre, Leesburg and Sand Rock departments being dispatched.  Upon their arrival, fire units went to work knocking down a fire on the roof of the structure. 

Everything was quickly brought under control but the structure did receive significant damage.  Fortunately, it appears that no one was hurt in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
