Teenager Shot and Wounded in Fort Payne

A teen girl was wounded during an altercation on Wednesday afternoon in Fort Payne. Police Chief David Davis said that the incident happened at approximately 2:46pm in the area of 16th Street Northwest and Gault Avenue North.

Officers responding to a shots fired call determined that two vehicles were involved in the incident.  Officers quickly located two vehicles that were suspected as having been involved in an altercation.

A 16-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the one of the vehicles, was taken to a hospital by family members. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening injuries, Davis said. Thus far there have been no arrests in connection with the incident. However, five people – from Lithonia, Ga., Gadsden and Fort Payne – were arrested on assorted drug charges as a result of the investigation.

Davis said the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Payne police investigations.
