Latest Weather Update for Northern Alabama

WEATHER OUTLOOK for WEDNESDAY THRU FRIDAY

Parts of Alabama will run the risk of seeing strong to severe storms over the next three days.

North Alabama will have the best chances for storms, according to forecasters. Storms will be possible across southeast and central Alabama today, but widespread severe storms aren’t expected.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather for the northern part of the state today.  A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.

The National Weather Service was watching a cluster of storms drop southward toward Alabama on Wednesday morning. Those storms could make it into the state later this morning and be around into the afternoon.

However, forecasters cautioned that confidence was low on how this round of storms would play out.

The strongest storms could have winds strong enough to bring down trees and power lines.  Storms on Tuesday afternoon took down a lot of trees and caused other wind damage in north Alabama. And there could have also been a tornado.

The weather service in Huntsville said on Wednesday morning that a storm survey team will be sent out to look at storm damage in the Monrovia area of Huntsville in Madison County. If a tornado is confirmed it will be then given an EF rating.

Today won’t be the only chance for severe weather. There will also be Level 1 severe weather risks for Thursday and Friday.

More waves of storms could affect north Alabama on Thursday. Here’s the severe weather outlook for Thursday:

There will be another Level 1 severe weather risk for north Alabama on Thursday.

And more of the state – north and central Alabama – will have a Level 1 risk of severe weather on Friday:

Heat will be a concern for areas not facing storms today, and heat advisories will be in effect for parts of central and southwest Alabama. The heat index could climb as high as 110 in those areas, according to the weather service.
