Cherokee County splits basketball games with Piedmont

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Warriors and Piedmont Bulldogs split a pair of basketball games on Thursday in Centre.

In girls action, Raechel Russell sank four 3-pointers in the Lady Warriors’ 54-28 victory.

Audrey Haygood had 13 points for Cherokee County. Mary Hayes Johnson delivered 12 points.

Lele Ridley led Piedmont with 10 points. Ava Pope connected on three treys and finished with nine points.

The Lady Warriors led at each of the quarter breaks. They held a 10-7 advantage after one and took a 29-9 edge at halftime. Cherokee County led 45-22 after three quarters.

In the nightcap, Piedmont’s boys rallied past the Warriors by the final of 61-58.

Rollie Pinto posted 21 points for the Bulldogs. Alex Odam scored 19 points and Ishmael Bethel rang for 16.

Landon Caldwell collected 16 points for the Warriors. Jack Amos added 15 points. Eli Martin and Jaden Wilson both rang for nine points. Cade Hopper hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with eight points.

The Warriors held a 10-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 27-20 edge at halftime. Cherokee County maintained a 46-40 lead after three quarters before Piedmont mounted a comeback. The Bulldogs outscored the Warriors 21-12 in the fourth for the final.
