FALKVILLE – Caden Burnett connected on 14-of-21 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 98 yards on 12 carries with a score to lead the Falkville Blue Devils to a 42-7 first-round playoff victory over visiting Collinsville on Friday.
Burnett got the Blue Devils on the board with his 57-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He connected with Kole Fitzgerald on a 9-yard scoring pass later in the quarter for a 14-0 lead.
Collinsville countered with Gavin Lang’s 36-yard touchdown reception. Luis Ailon’s extra point cut Falkville’s lead in half at 14-7 after a quarter.
But then the Blue Devils went on a 28-0 run for the final. Lawson Tew opened the second-quarter scoring with a 4-yard run. Burnett connected with Isaiah Warnick on touchdown passes of 10 and 40 yards to give Falkville a 35-7 halftime advantage.
Warnick finished with four catches for 92 yards and the two scores.
Tew tallied his second touchdown of the night in the third quarter on an 8-yard run for the final.
Falkville (7-4) advances to next Friday’s second round, where it will travel to Aliceville (10-1). Collinsville’s season ends at 8-3.
