Lady Warriors close out volleyball’s regular season, “block out cancer” on Monday

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors closed out their regular volleyball season at home on Saturday and Monday.

On Saturday, they defeated Fort Payne (18-25, 25-21, 15-10), Brooks (25-21, 25-21) and Curry (25-23, 25-23). On Monday during its “Block Out Cancer” day, Cherokee County outlasted Sylvania 25-20, 33-31 and lost to Spring Garden and Donoho. The scores in the Spring Garden match were 19-25, 20-25. The scores in the Donoho match were 25-18, 20-25, 14-16.

For the day Saturday, Macy Lea posted 50 assists, two kills, an ace and nine digs. Raegan Garmany contributed 11 kills, three digs and a block. Ella Garmany collected seven aces, 14 kills, a block and 14 digs. Libby Curry managed 10 aces, five kills, an assist and three digs. Nevaeh Gaidurgis earned 24 kills, two blocks and four digs. Ellisan Givens finished with 22 digs, five aces and an assist.

On Monday, Lea collected 48 assists, two kills, 12 digs and three aces. Raegan Garmany managed seven kills and three digs. Vivian Connell contributed seven kills, three blocks and four assists. Ella Garmany posted 23 kills, 16 digs, four aces, two blocks and two assists. Curry came away with four kills, nine aces and two digs. Gaidurgis gained 25 kills, a block and four digs. Givens had 32 digs, a kill, three aces and four assists. KarLee Jolly finished with 17 digs and an assist.

The Lady Warriors will host the Class 4A, Area 10 tournament on Thursday. They take on the winner of the 4 p.m. Ashville-Etowah match at 5:30 p.m.
