On Wednesday, Officers of the Cherokee County Detention Center attended Defensive Tactics Training on the campus of Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver stated that the training “Instills confidence in an officer’s ability to de-escalate high-stress situations and it also offers lessons in the hands-on defensive techniques required to maintain control with actively aggressive individuals,”.

Defensive Tactics Instructors Deputies Casey Marcrum and Jason Pilkington from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office provided local Detention Officers with very valuable pivotal training and lessons covering officer safety.

Sheriff Shaver said he greatly appreciated Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Petway to allow their academy staff to instruct this training in Cherokee County.
