The South Continues to Sizzle – Setting New Record Highs on Thursday

The intense June heat broke two more records on Thursday as both Montgomery and Mobile set record highs for June 23rd.

Montgomery’s mercury soared to 104, breaking the record of 102 degrees set back in 1930.  Mobile hit 102 degrees, breaking the record of 101, set in 2009.

Other high temperatures from Thursday from around the state:

Anniston: 96 degrees (record 99 degrees in 2007)

Birmingham: 98 degrees (record 100 degrees in 1897)

Dothan: 102 degrees (record not available)

Huntsville: 97 degrees (record 104 degrees in 1930)

Muscle Shoals: 98 degrees (record 104 degrees in 1930)

Troy: 101 degrees (record not available)

Tuscaloosa: 101 degrees (record 102 degrees in 2012)

The National Weather Service says those hotter than normal temperatures will stick around for some time – with more mid-to-upper 90s even triple digit degrees – being possible across the state through the weekend.
