Freshmen Orientation at Gadsden State

(Gadsden, Ala.)—This summer, incoming freshmen at Gadsden State Community College are invited to participate in Cardinal Commit, the College’s new student orientation.

“Students who participate in Cardinal Commit will be armed with information and tools they need to be successful in college from the very beginning,” said Whitney Hall, assistant director of Enrollment Services. “Cardinal Commit is designed to prepare admitted students for their first semester and beyond.  It is important for all new Cardinals to participate in one of the sessions being offered.”

Cardinal Commit events will be held from 8 a.m. to noon and are available on different dates at three of Gadsden State’s campuses:

  • July 19 —Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre
  • July 20 —Ayers Campus in Anniston
  • July 21 —Wallace Drive Campus in Gadsden
  • July 23Wallace Drive Campus in Gadsden

The event will feature a Student Services Expo; navigation training for student portals, including myGadsdenState and Blackboard; information sessions on financial aid and student success; and a parent panel.  Students will also have the opportunity to register for their fall classes and get their student ID and parking decal. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m.

Cardinal Commit will begin with optional Advising and Registration Sessions. There are two available: one from 8 to 9 a.m. and a second option from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Programs and Services Browse Session is open from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Opening session begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by breakout sessions focusing on financial aid, student success and more at 11:15 a.m. The Student Meet and Greet rounds out the event at 12:15 p.m.

“We encourage parents to attend Cardinal Commit so they are well-informed about Gadsden State programs and services,” she said. “This training gives parents the opportunity to ask questions to Gadsden State administrators so that they feel equipped to support their students through this new season of their lives.

“It is our goal for students to leave Cardinal Commit feeling excited about their decision to attend Gadsden State and ready to conquer their first semester,” Hall said.
