Occasional Strong Storms Possible Throughout the Week

Strong to severe storms will be possible for parts of both north and central Alabama several times this week.

According to the National Weather Service, those strongest storms could have winds capable of bringing down tree limbs and power lines and there could be a substantial amount of lightning and heavy rainfall.  Flooding could be an issue by the end of the week as the rain adds up.  The rest of Alabama could also see strong to severe storms late Monday through Wednesday.

The Storm Prediction Center has parts of Alabama in severe weather risks four days this week:  Today, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Alabama will be stuck in a hot and humid airmass to the south of a cold front. That will raise the potential for the usual summertime afternoon storms during the next few days. A few of those could become severe in the northernmost part of the state.

The northwest corner of Alabama has a Level 1 out of 5 (or marginal) risk for severe weather today (and the risk area was expanded in the latest update). A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.  More storms will be possible in north Alabama late tonight into Tuesday morning when a storm complex moves into the state from the north, according to the weather service.
