Cherokee County Commission Meeting Monday, May 23rd

During the planning session of tonight’s Cherokee County Commission meeting, Leann Hill, President of the County Park Board, presented to the commission a LWCF grant that could help put in 15 fully upgraded campsites at Cherokee Rock Village.  These campsites would be adjacent to the new mountain biking trail, taking advantage of a part of the park that has currently be unused.  This would including the installation of underground power and water utilities, as well as improving the land on the campsites. Hill asked the commission to do a match of the grant for an overall total of $700,000 to be used on the project.  Tim Burgess, Probate Judge and County Commission Chairman, asked when the deadline for the application for the grant is due.  Hill stated that it would need to be turned in by Wednesday. Hill also presented to the commission an alternate option for half of the amount of the original grant, but would require doing half of the work. The commission agreed that it was too soon of a deadline, therefore they would not be discussing the issue in this meeting on such short notice.
