ATTALLA – The Cherokee County girls soccer team posted the program’s first shutout on Tuesday, a 4-0 victory at Etowah.

Kaylee Green and Hannah Moseley combined for the shutout. Defensively, Mackenzie Moles and Haleigh Culver helped to keep the shutout intact.

Goals were scored by Ella Clifton, Abbey Walsh, Breanna Pierce and Ava Haygood.

“This group of girls is learning how to win and that is huge,” head coach Matthew Pharr said. “We have a strong core of juniors who have stepped up this season to try and get this program off the ground. It’s been really gratifying to see these girls buy in and develop their skill. We had a tough start to the season, but I think this team has finally found its stride and has a ton of room for improvement we can make moving into the offseason.”

In boys action, the Warriors won 6-2, giving them their seventh win and securing a winning season for the first time in two years.

Goals were scored by Tanner Young (2), Andy Morrison, Daniel Mejia (2).

“Give credit to Etowah. They had two kids who gave us fits all night,” Pharr said. “Those two kids are going to be something special as they progress through their high school career. Etowah played a heck of a game and executed their game plan really well. We had trouble breaking it down.

“In the second half, we started to finally hit our stride and put up four goals in about 15 minutes to finally create some separation. I really can’t brag enough about this senior group of boys we have. They’ve done a great job setting the standard on this team and not allowing anyone to have a day off.

“Coach Paul Sewell has done a great job with this group getting them prepared for this season. Andrew Morrison has really started to show up for us and Tanner Young and Daniel Mejia have put this team on their backs the past few weeks to make sure we are moving the ball and scoring like we should. Ben and Will Frampton have done a great job controlling the back line and minimizing the other team’s chances.”
