Huntsville Police Officer Charged with Capital Murder in Connection with Shooting of Northwest Georgia Woman

A Huntsville, Alabama police officer currently stands charged with capital murder, in connection with the shooting death of a northwest Georgia woman last Friday.

Huntsville Police say the State Bureau of Investigation has charged HPD Officer David McCoy, age 28, with the slaying.  Investigators say that McCoy was off-duty at the time of the shooting January 7th – and he and the victim were in a romantic relationship.

Family members identified the victim as Courtney Spraggins, 26, of Trion, Georgia.

They also told media outlets that Spraggins was 7-months pregnant at the time of her death.  Reports out of Huntsville indicated that McCoy had attempted to convince law enforcement on the scene that Spraggins’ death was a suicide.
