SAND ROCK – Sand Rock opened Class 2A, Area 12 basketball play with a pair of wins over visiting Gaston on Monday evening.
The Wildcat boys claimed a 78-42 victory, while the Lady Wildcats smothered the Lady Bulldogs 87-7.
In the boys game, Logan Crider and Jacob StClair led the Wildcats (6-4) with 23 points apiece. Crider also came down with eight rebounds while StClair dished out seven assists. Slade StClair added 11 points.
Kendrick Blackwell led Gaston with 17 points.
Sand Rock held a 22-17 advantage at the end of the first quarter and led 41-24 at halftime. The Wildcat lead swelled to 66-36 at the end of three quarters.
In the girls game, eleven different Sand Rock players scored a basket.
Katelyn StClair led the Lady Wildcats (9-0) with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. She also had three, steals, three assists and two rebounds. McKenna Ballenger added 11 points, five boards, three steals and an assist. Lily Middlebrooks managed 10 points, three rebounds, three steals and an assist. Lanie Henderson had nine points, seven boards, five assists and three steals.
Haley Grace Lisenbee contributed eight points, five steals, three rebounds and three assists. Jacey Stephens also collected eight points. Emilee Burton came away with seven points and three boards. Caley Garrett had six points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Chloe Stephens finished with five points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Both Sand Rock squads host Sylvania on Thursday.
