GADSDEN– The Gadsden State Police and Public Safety Department has recognized Officer Mark Bullock for 30 years of full-time law-enforcement service.
The department announced the milestone in an official Facebook post. His career spans corrections, patrol, investigations and supervisory assignments across multiple agencies.
A Career Across Etowah County
According to the department’s August 2025 welcome announcement, Bullock began his career at the Etowah County Jail in 1996. He later graduated from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Academy in 2002.
Afterward, Bullock served as a deputy and advanced to sergeant. In 2012, he became an investigator with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.
Bullock then joined the Gadsden Police Department as a patrol officer. He later earned a promotion to violent crime detective.
In 2019, he returned to the sheriff’s office as assistant chief of corrections. The agency later promoted him to assistant chief deputy.
Bullock retired in November 2024, but continued working as a part-time school resource officer for Gadsden City Schools.
He also joined Gadsden State as a part-time officer in August 2025. That announcement identified the college’s Cherokee Campus in Centre as his initial assignment.
The 30-year milestone covers his broader law-enforcement career. The college’s current full-time faculty and staff directory also lists Bullock as a police officer.
Helping Neighbors During a Fire
Bullock’s work also drew attention earlier this year after he responded to a house fire near the college.
In its February 17 report, WEIS described his response while patrolling the East Broad Campus. Bullock noticed a glow near Paden Avenue and located a burning home on Fuller Street.
He then contacted the Gadsden Fire Department and helped nearby residents evacuate. The report said the fire threatened neighboring homes, but no injuries occurred.
Gadsden State serves students at five campuses or educational centers in Calhoun, Cherokee and Etowah counties. Its police department also enforces campus safety rules and assists with crime reports.
