Piedmont, Spring Garden move up in latest ASWA football poll

Following a wild Week 8 in high school football action, the Class 3A Piedmont Bulldogs (7-1) and Class 2A Spring Garden Panthers (8-0) saw their stocks improve in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings. The latest poll was released early Wednesday morning.

Piedmont moved up two spots to No. 2 following a 38-14 win at Hokes Bluff. The Bulldogs host Wellborn (5-3) on Friday.

Spring Garden inched up a spot to No. 5 following a thrilling 29-28 victory at Sand Rock that clinched the Region 6 title. The Panthers host Southeastern (5-3) on Friday.

Two other area teams received consideration for this week’s rankings: Class 1A Cedar Bluff (5-3) and Class 4A Cherokee County (6-2).

Cedar Bluff is coming off a 30-7 win over Appalachian that clinched the Region 7 championship. The Tigers travel to Coosa Christian (4-4) on Friday.

Cherokee County defeated Cleburne County 31-17 last week and will travel to Jacksonville (4-4) on Friday.
