The latest Leadership Cherokee class officially kicked off their year with a special Get Acquainted Day (where they met local musician/speaker Chad Steed) at the Chamber of Commerce office on the campus of Gadsden State Cherokee.    

Juniors from each of the five public high schools located in the county are selected to take part.  The program is designed to prepare and build leadership resources across the entire county.   This select group is made up of young and emerging leaders from  across the area, who’ll receive an intense view of civic and governmental leadership through direct contact with a wide array of institutions which help to keep Cherokee County solvent and moving forward.   Youth Leadership Cherokee is a program of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce with Joy Perry serving as the director.

Following Thursday’s Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce monthly breakfast – it was time for students to spend the day learning about tourism in the area; they first paid a visit to Orbix Hot Glass, to take part in the “Blow your own Holiday Ornament” event which is hosted annually by Cal Breed and the staff.

Afterwards the class enjoyed lunch at Woody’s Family Steakhouse – from there it was on to Little River Canyon and the JSU Center, for an entertaining and educational tour with Anna Lindsey, Beth Sewell and Superintendent Steve Black.
