FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH 1:00am THURSDAY

A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for Cherokee County, and the surrounding areas including

Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Hale, Jefferson, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston counties.

Over this time showers and thunderstorms could produce heavy rainfall which could lead to flash flooding.  Total rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are forecast with locally higher amounts possible.

Some areas have already received 1 to 4 inches of rainfall over the past several days, and the areas will be even more prone to flooding, as the ground becomes saturated.

Motorists should exercise caution, watch for ponding on roadways and slow down on backroads as well taking care to watch for downed trees, and/or limbs.  Give yourself extra time to get where you’re going safely.
