The Weaver Police Department is investigating a murder/suicide case that occurred on Saturday.
Weaver Police Chief Wayne Bush said in a news release that his department received a call requesting a welfare check at a location on Juanita Lane in Jacksonville. The caller stated that 21 year old Alex Haynes of Oxford had confessed to his mother that he had just killed his girlfriend.
Officers arrived at the location to find that forced entry had been made to a window on the rear door of the residence. The officer (assisted by a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputy) made entry to the home and found 24 year old Katlynn Jones deceased from multiple gunshot and stab wounds. Jones 4 year old son was also found to be suffering from a gunshot wound in the head, but was still alive.
Haynes was located by officers a short time later by the Anniston Police Department and a high speed chase ensued. Oxford Police joined the chase as it entered their city. The pursuit ended in a field in Talladega County where Haynes shot himself. He later died as a result of the self inflicted injury.
Chief Bush said that at this time Jones’s child is in critical condition at UAB in Birmingham.
Investigators are actively working to find a motive for the crime.
