GADSDEN-The Alabama Board of Nursing will collect paper license applications Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Gadsden State Community College as the agency continues recovering from a cyberattack.
The attack disrupted board services beginning Sept. 1 and left Alabama’s online nursing license system offline. More than 80,000 nurses and applicants face delays statewide, and board employees are processing applications manually.
The board says some services are returning in phases. However, full restoration will take additional time, and officials have not announced when the entire system will be available again.
Paper Applications Available in Gadsden
The Gadsden collection site will be in the first-floor conference room of Helderman Hall on the Wallace Drive campus. The campus is located at 1001 George Wallace Drive.
The current announcement does not include collection hours. Therefore, applicants should check the board’s official website for the latest instructions and obtain the appropriate forms before traveling to the campus.
The paper process is available for advanced-practice applicants, new nursing graduates seeking registered-nurse or licensed-practical-nurse credentials, and nurses applying for an Alabama license from another state. Meanwhile, the board says it cannot process incomplete applications.
License Verification During the Outage
During the outage, employers and members of the public can use Nursys or the board’s recently licensed list to verify available records. Meanwhile, Nursys information is current through Aug. 31.
Additionally, some successful applicants may not receive an Alabama license number until full services return. In those cases, an NCSBN identification number may help employers confirm licensure through Nursys.
Board Warns Nurses About Scams
The board also warns nurses to remain alert for scams during the disruption. Employees will not instruct a nurse to keep an investigation secret or demand immediate payment of a fee or fine.
