GADSDEN – The Sand Rock Wildcats opened Class 2A, Area 12 baseball action with a 12-1 win in five innings at Gaston on Friday.
Logan Wood picked up the win after working all five innings. He allowed no earned runs on three hits with a walk and nine strikeouts.
Wood also had a solid day at the plate for fifth-ranked Sand Rock (6-1, 1-0) by going 2-for-3 with a walk and five RBIs. Brian Giles went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Cade Ballenger was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, four runs and a RBI. Olin Pruitt went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs. Bradley Jackson was 2-for-2, walk. Jacob Cornejo also contributed a hit.
Austin Yoder scored a run and had a RBI. Slade St. Clair drew two walks. Ethan Clanton scored a run. Trace Shubert finished with a RBI.
The two teams play again on Saturday at Sand Rock at 11 a.m.
