Supreme Court Puts Lower Court “Curbside Voting” Order on Hold

A lower court order which would have permitted curbside voting in Alabama in November, has been put on hold by the Supreme Court.

The decision came in the form of a five to three vote – with Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Justice Stephen Breyer and Justice Elena Kagan all dissenting.

Sotomayor described the lower court’s order allowing curbside voting as “modest,” and she said she would not have put it on hold.

It wasn’t clear how many counties may have offered curbside voting, which allows individuals  to vote from their car by handing their ballot to a poll worker.

Currently, 28 states permit curbside voting.
