Chattooga County murder suspect Steven James Mauldin of Trion was arrested in August of last year after he was accused of murdering two people and shooting another who subsequently passed away. The murders took place in the Holland area. After a multi-state, multi-jurisdictional manhunt, Mauldin was booked into the Chattooga County jail to face the charges.

Sheriff Mark Schrader and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office said that they believe Mauldin shot and killed mother and son, sixty-one-year-old Linda Mae Everett and her thirty-five-year-old son, Joe Edward Brown. Daryl Lee Marsh, age 46. was also shot and later passed away from his injuries.

Mauldin’s case was brought before the Chattooga County Grand Jury, but now Mauldin’s defense attorneys say that there were convicted felons serving on the Grand Jury in violation of Georgia law. In fact, they say that the vice-foreman of the Grand Jury was convicted of a felony drug charge for selling cocaine earlier this year.

At the time of Maudlin’s arrest, Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News, “It was a brutal and senseless killing.” According to WZQZ News archives, Mauldin has a history of violent crime arrests in Chattooga and neighboring counties.
