The number of coronavirus cases in the state jumped by 787 from Thursday to Friday, with the most recent Alabama Department of Public Health numbers which were updated Friday at 10:00am – showing 28,583 cases in the state.

Recent increases have been in the mid-to-high 800’s with a peak of 1,014 on June 14th.

The number of deaths due to the illness has risen to 812.

The ADPH said 330,906 have been tested for COVID-19 – 98,318 in the last two weeks.  Of those tested in the last 14 days, 8,895 were positive – hospitalizations have, however, fallen slightly.  According to Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers – the county still has a total of five confirmed deaths due to the illness – and up to this point 55 confirmed cases of COVID-19 of which 17 remain active.  Out of 200 tests administered locally over the past 14 days, a total of 17 positive results were returned.

The number of presumed recoveries has now risen to 15,974 statewide.
