Cherokee County EMA Holds Weekly COVID-19 News Conference

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency held their weekly COVID-19 News Conference inside the Cherokee County Commission Chambers on Tuesday morning. The Agency has been doing these conferences via Facebook Live for the past three weeks allowing local officials, leaders and stakeholders an opportunity to address the public in response to the recent Coronavirus Pandemic.

This week members of the state delegation and circuit court system were among those that spoke.

For cases, deaths, and total tested

As of Tuesday afternoon, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state stands at 2,119 with a total of 39 confirmed deaths as a result of the illness.  Approximately 15,000 people have been tested – and 271 have thus far been hospitalized in connection with novel coronavirus since March 13th.

District 10 State Senator Andrew Jones from Centre said that state health officials expect the peak of the pandemic to be sometime in mid  to late April –

Here in Cherokee County 53 individuals have been tested and we have six confirmed cases.

9th Judicial Circuit Judge Jeremy Taylor provided an update on the latest information concerning the court system –

Judge Taylor explained that if you have a current ongoing case, it is important that you speak with your attorney to get guidance about how to proceed.

Also present during Tuesday’s conference was Josh Wright, Director of Piedmont Rescue/EMS, Corey Chambers, Cherokee County Engineer and Theresa Hulgan, Executive Director of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.
