Congressman Mike Rogers Issues Statement On Border Enforcement Data

WASHINGTON – Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee released a statement following a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announcement that its total fiscal year 2019 southwest border ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS [3] reached nearly 1 million. “First and foremost, I want to thank the hardworking men and women of CBP who went above and beyond this year as an unprecedented number of migrant children and families arrived at our southwest border.

I also applaud the Trump Administration for taking decisive action to bring down apprehensions from this spring’s crisis levels. Border apprehensions have decreased 64 percent since May thanks to agreements with Mexico and Central American governments, an expansion of Migrant Protection Protocols, and a number of efforts to improve the integrity of our immigration laws.

“Unfortunately, Congressional Democrats have forced the administration to go it alone. Instead of pursuing bipartisan efforts to close the loopholes that led to this year’s crisis, House Democrats have only put forth partisan proposals that do nothing to prevent another crisis and have no chance of becoming law.

September’s enforcement numbers were still higher than six of the last seven previous years. There is only so much the administration can do without Congress. We must act now to secure the border and prevent another crisis.”
